On our second morning in Edinburgh, my husband Brian and I took the bus from Mortonhall Caravan and Camping Park all the way to Ocean Terminal, the end of the bus line. This is where Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia is located. Decommissioned in 1997, it now functions as an excellent museum. We spent most of the day roaming the five decks of this nautical beauty.
The room above served as the cozy and comfortable living room for the royal family.
This smaller, casual dining room was used exclusively by the family. The larger formal dining room was used to entertain guests when they were 'in port.' Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip traveled all over the world in this amazing vessel.
Queen Elizabeth's desk. Even while away at sea, the Queen had plenty of royal work and duties to attend to, especially correspondence.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana also sailed on HMY Britannia. Princess Diana enjoyed hanging out at the Officers Lounge, playing cards with the officers. Props were available for a fun souvenir pic.
After the extensive self-guided tour, we had worked up an appetite. We had tea and lunch at HMY Britannia's Royal Deck Tea Room. Such a lovely and cozy dining room. They didn't mind that we were dressed casually in our raincoats and hiking boots. Brian and I enjoyed the harbor view while filling our stomachs with delicious warming food. We spent the evening at the nearby mall catching a movie and dinner. A superb day!
