Brian and I spent three wonderful days in the city of Lisbon, Portugal or Lisboa, as it is called in Portuguese. We were staying at a camping park in the seaside town of Costa da Caparica across the Tagus River. The staff at this Orbitur camping park helped us understand where to catch the bus a few blocks away to get to the ferry terminal. Once across the river, we used various modes of transportation to explore the city: a Hop On Hop Off bus, funiculars, taxicabs, and of course, lots of walking.
The Hop On Hop Off bus tour gave us an overview of the city and helped us determine which sights we wanted to explore in more depth. These included the Saint George Castle, the waterfront monument to the Explorers, the Belem Tower, and the church at the Jeronimos Monastery. We also enjoyed wandering the streets where we found the tiled buildings uniquely beautiful. Of course, we had to sample the food including Portuguese pastries. Yum!
